What is an underscrub, exactly?
An underscrub is a thin long or short sleeve shirt worn underneath a scrub top. It adds warmth without adding bulk, it stops the scrub top sitting directly on your skin, and it shows at the neck and the cuff, which is the only part of the outfit most people get to choose.
Why long sleeves under scrubs?
Warmth is the obvious answer and not usually the real one. Most people wear a long-sleeve layer because they are standing still in air conditioning, because their arms get cold before the rest of them, or because a short-sleeve scrub top rubs. A thin layer solves all three without a jacket you have to keep taking off.
Can you wear printed shirts under scrubs?
Often yes, sometimes no, and it depends entirely on your employer. Some uniform policies are silent on what is underneath, some specify solid colors only, and some are strict about anything visible at the neck. Read yours. We are not able to tell you what your workplace allows, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What makes a good underscrub for a twelve-hour shift?
Flat seams at the shoulder so nothing shows through a thin scrub top. A neckline that sits where you want it rather than peeking randomly. Fabric that recovers rather than sagging at the cuff. And enough of them in the drawer that you are not washing one every night.
